Heavily optimised for racing yet also able to provide exciting cruising performance, this carbon race boat is ready to go with extensive sail wardrobe from 2013/2019/2020, additional 3m retractable carbon bowsprit, optional carbon helm wheel and B&G mast mounted electronics.
FURTHER BROKER’S COMMENTS:
Launched in 2013, this Reichel Pugh designed carbon flying machine offers a fantastic opportunity for some exciting racing under both ORC And IRC and very fast cruising. Fully optimised for racing and 500kgs lighter than the standard X-Treme 37 thanks to her carbon fibre, deck and superstructure, plus her Southern Spars carbon mast, boom and an optional carbon fibre 3m retractable bowsprit (the original fixed bowsprit can be included), and her T-shaped fin keel with a lead bulb and carbon rudder.
The Croatian-flagged ‘DSK EXTREME’ also benefits from having rod standing rigging and recently updated Dyneema running rigging. Her extensive performance orientated sail wardrobe is from North and One Sails and includes primary sails from 2019/2020.
Her specification highlights include:
OWNER’S COMMENTS:
“I am the second owner and having imported her from Cape Town, South Africa in 2015. She has been professionally maintained and made a lot of upgrades. This year (2021) she was re-anti-fouled, the engine was serviced new running rigging added, new sails and upgraded 3-metre bowsprit. Additionally, an additional second backstay has been fitted, so that it is a twin one.”
MANUFACTURER’S COMMENTS:
“Also known as the carbon beast!
Amongst the first production yachts of its kind, the X-Treme 37 is an extraordinary performer designed by the award-winning Yacht Designers Reichel/Pugh and built using technology previously only used for one-off custom yachts.
This ground-breaking methodology results in a powerful, super-fast, one design race yacht, with uncompromising up and downwind capabilities.
The yacht is designed for maximum thrills and excitement while remaining simple to sail, in both inshore and ocean racing events.
Full carbon, including interior and spars, the X-Treme 37 is at the cutting edge of performance racing!”
PRESS REVIEWS:
“I think I’ll just quote from the Reichel-Pugh press release here: “A high-performance design for inshore and offshore racing. The briefing to the Reichel-Pugh team was to develop a flat-out racer that delivers the thrill of a high-performance design as well as the ability to capture podium positions.”
When I called Reichel-Pugh, I was looking for something a little more specific than that. But I take it that this is a very fast boat that you can race any way you like… From my perspective looking at this new design… we seem to be in an arms race to see who can produce the most high-powered and thrilling ride. Like the name of this boat, X-Treme, these boats are aimed at the extreme end of the sport.
The D/L of this sport boat is 59.63 and that is very light. The L/B is 2.9 and that’s pretty wide. There is a tad bit of overhang aft but I used LOA for my D/L. The sheerline is reversed, meaning it bumps up in the middle but just a bit. I don’t see anything on either the drawings or the renderings to indicate a chine... The draft is 8 feet with a T-configured bulb. What I find most interesting about this design is that it goes against the trends of twin rudders and chines.
The interior layout is very basic. There is an exposed head forward across from what looks to be a micro galley. There are port and starboard settee berths aft. That’s it…
This is a big rig with a SA/D of 37.4…. The spreaders are swept 20 degrees. The mainsheet leads to the cockpit sole just forward of the tiller. The deck is extremely clean and low windage oriented. Short transverse jib tracks allow for very close sheeting angles.”
